Jeju Air Flight 2216

29 December 2024

Jeju Air Flight 2216 was a scheduled flight from Bangkok to Muan International Airport in South Korea, operated with a Boeing 737-800. After an apparent bird strike on approach, the aircraft landed without its landing gear deployed, slid along the runway and crashed into a structure near its end, where it broke apart and caught fire. Almost everyone on board was killed, with only two crew members surviving, making it the deadliest aviation accident on South Korean soil. Investigators examined the bird strike, the engines and the concrete embankment that held the runway's navigation equipment, which was criticised for being so close to the runway end.
