Founding of West Bromwich Albion F.C.

1878

West Bromwich Albion is an English football club from West Bromwich in the West Midlands, started by workers at George Salter's spring works as West Bromwich Strollers and renamed a few years later. It was a founding member of the Football League in 1888, and has played at its present ground, The Hawthorns, since 1900. The club won the FA Cup five times, most recently in 1968, and the league championship in 1920, and the team of the 1950s, with Ronnie Allen, was among the best in England. Albion has often moved between the Premier League and the lower divisions in recent decades. Its nickname is the Baggies, and the club's rivals include Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
