Founding of Nestlé

1866

Nestle is a Swiss multinational food and drink company, with its headquarters in Vevey on Lake Geneva. Its roots go back to the baby cereal developed by the pharmacist Henri Nestle, and to the Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company, which later merged with it. The group grew by the sale of condensed milk, infant food and chocolate, and it launched Nescafe, instant coffee, in the late 1930s. Today it owns hundreds of brands, among them KitKat, Nespresso and Maggi, and it is one of the largest food companies in the world. Nestle has also been the subject of controversy, particularly over its marketing of infant formula in developing countries, which led to a consumer boycott beginning in the 1970s.
