Founding of NBC

19 June 1926

The National Broadcasting Company, or NBC, is an American television and radio network that was founded by the Radio Corporation of America as the first national radio network in the United States. It operated two radio networks, called the Red and the Blue, and in 1942 the government required it to sell the Blue network, which became ABC. NBC moved into television in the late 1930s and early 1940s, and it was a pioneer in colour broadcasting. Its peacock logo was introduced to promote colour programming. The network is headquartered in New York, at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, and is now part of NBCUniversal, owned by Comcast.
