KFC, originally Kentucky Fried Chicken, is an American fast food chain that specialises in fried chicken. Its history goes back to Harland Sanders, who began serving chicken to travellers at his roadside service station in Corbin, Kentucky, during the Great Depression and later developed his recipe of herbs and spices. The first franchised restaurant opened in Utah in 1952, and the business spread rapidly across the United States and abroad. Sanders, who was given the honorary title of Colonel, became the face of the brand, and he sold the company in 1964. KFC is now owned by Yum Brands, which also owns Taco Bell and Pizza Hut, and has outlets in well over a hundred countries.
