Galatasaray is a Turkish sports club in Istanbul, founded by students and teachers of the Galatasaray High School, among whom Ali Sami Yen took a leading part, with the aim of playing football in a country where the sport was still new. Its colors are yellow and red. Together with Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş it makes up the big three of Turkish football, and its derby with Fenerbahçe is called the Intercontinental Derby because the two clubs are on the European and Asian sides of Istanbul. In 2000 Galatasaray won the UEFA Cup, beating Arsenal on penalties, and then the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid, the first Turkish club to win European trophies. It has won many Turkish league titles.
