Founding of Fulham F.C.

1879

Fulham Football Club is the oldest professional football club in London, founded as Fulham St Andrew's Church Sunday School, a church team, and is based at Craven Cottage, a picturesque ground beside the River Thames, with a historic pavilion. For much of its history it played in the lower divisions. Notable figures include the England midfielder Johnny Haynes, who was the first player in English football to earn a very large wage. In the 2000s, Fulham reached the Premier League and, in 2010, the UEFA Europa League final, which it lost to Atletico Madrid. After spells moving between the Premier League and the Championship, it has established itself in the top flight again since 2022.
