Founding of Feyenoord Rotterdam

19 July 1908

Feyenoord is a Dutch football club from the port city of Rotterdam, with a working-class image that contrasts with Ajax of Amsterdam, its long-standing rival in De Klassieker. The club was founded in the south of the city, and its name comes from the district of Feijenoord. In 1970 it became the first Dutch club to win the European Cup, beating Celtic in extra time, and it also won the Intercontinental Cup that year. It later won the UEFA Cup in 1974 and 2002. Its home ground is De Kuip, one of the most atmospheric stadiums in Europe. In recent years, it has again challenged for domestic titles, winning the Eredivisie in 2017.
