World Aquatics, formerly known as the Federation Internationale de Natation or FINA, is the international governing body for swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming and open-water swimming. It was founded in London during the 1908 Olympic Games by representatives of several national federations, in order to standardize rules and records. Its headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. The organization runs the World Aquatics Championships and the World Cup series and sets the rules for aquatic events at the Olympics. It adopted its present name in 2022, and has been involved in debates about eligibility rules, including those for transgender athletes.
