Founding of Ferrari

12 March 1947

Ferrari is an Italian maker of luxury sports cars based in Maranello, near Modena. Enzo Ferrari had earlier run a racing team, Scuderia Ferrari, preparing and entering cars for Alfa Romeo, and the first car to carry the Ferrari name, the 125 S, ran in the spring of 1947. Road cars were built to pay for the racing programme, and the company has competed in Formula One since the first world championship season in 1950, making it the sport's most successful and longest-serving team. Fiat took a stake in the firm in 1969. Ferrari became a separate listed company in 2015, and its prancing horse emblem is among the most recognized in the world.
