Founding of Burnley F.C.

1882

Burnley F.C. is an English football club from the Lancashire town of Burnley, a former cotton-mill town, and one of the twelve founding members of the Football League. It plays in claret and blue and is nicknamed the Clarets. The club won the league championship in 1921 and 1960, and the FA Cup in 1914. Its home ground, Turf Moor, has been used by the club since the 1880s, and is one of the oldest grounds in the country. Burnley is one of the smallest towns to have a team in the top flight, and in the 2010s under the manager Sean Dyche, it established itself in the Premier League and qualified for the Europa League.
