Death of Ronald Reagan

5 June 2004

Ronald Reagan died on 5 June 2004 in 668 St. Cloud Road, aged 93. An American actor turned politician, Reagan was a Hollywood film actor and union leader before becoming a conservative Republican and governor of California. As the 40th president of the United States he cut taxes, increased military spending and took a hard line against the Soviet Union, though he also negotiated with Mikhail Gorbachev and signed an arms-control treaty eliminating intermediate-range missiles. He survived an assassination attempt in 1981 and faced the Iran–Contra affair in his second term. He is admired by many Americans as a leader who helped to end the Cold War. In his later years he suffered from Alzheimer's disease.
