George H. W. Bush died on 30 November 2018 in West Oaks, aged 94. An American Republican politician, Bush served as a Navy pilot in the Second World War and then built a career in the Texas oil business before holding a series of public offices, including congressman, ambassador to the United Nations, director of the CIA and vice president under Ronald Reagan. As the 41st president, he oversaw the peaceful end of the Cold War, German reunification, the invasion of Panama and the Gulf War of 1991, which expelled Iraqi forces from Kuwait. He signed the Americans with Disabilities Act. Weakened by a recession and by a broken pledge not to raise taxes, he lost the 1992 election to Bill Clinton. His son George W. Bush became president in 2001.
