Bruce Lee died on 20 July 1973 in Kowloon Tong, aged 32. A martial artist and actor born in San Francisco and raised in Hong Kong, Bruce Lee studied Wing Chun and later developed his own approach, Jeet Kune Do, which stressed directness and adaptability. He appeared as Kato in the American television series The Green Hornet, then returned to Hong Kong, where The Big Boss and Fist of Fury made him a star. Enter the Dragon (1973), one of the first Hollywood co-productions with Hong Kong, was released shortly after his sudden death at 32 from cerebral oedema. His films sparked the worldwide popularity of martial arts cinema, and he remains a cultural icon.
