Creation of TypeScript

1 October 2012

TypeScript is a programming language developed by Microsoft that adds optional static typing to JavaScript. It was designed by a team led by Anders Hejlsberg, who had earlier created Turbo Pascal and C#, and was released publicly as a free and open-source project. Programs written in TypeScript are compiled into ordinary JavaScript and run anywhere JavaScript does, in browsers or on servers. The types allow editors and compilers to catch many errors before the program runs and make large code bases easier to maintain. The language was adopted by major frameworks such as Angular, and over the following decade it became one of the most widely used languages for web development.
