Creation of MIUI

MIUI is a customized version of the Android operating system developed by the Chinese electronics company Xiaomi, whose first version was released as a modified Android ROM for existing phones, a few months before Xiaomi's first handset. It was made with the help of an active community of users, who suggested features and received frequent updates, a model that helped to build the brand's following. MIUI has a distinctive visual design that borrows ideas from iOS, with custom icons, themes and features such as a theme store and a built-in security app. It became one of the most widely used Android skins, in China and in markets such as India, though it has also been criticized for its preinstalled advertising.
