Creation of Kali Linux

13 March 2013

Kali Linux is a Debian-based Linux distribution designed for digital forensics and penetration testing, and it is maintained by the company Offensive Security. It was released as the successor to the earlier BackTrack distribution, rebuilt on a standard Debian base. It comes with several hundred pre-installed tools for tasks such as network scanning, password cracking, wireless testing and the analysis of web applications. It can be run from a live USB drive or in a virtual machine, and it is widely used by security professionals and students. It is intended for authorised testing, and using its tools against systems without permission is illegal in most countries.
