Construction of Shanghai World Financial Center

28 August 2008

The Shanghai World Financial Center is a skyscraper in the Lujiazui district of Pudong, Shanghai, completed in 2008. It was developed by the Japanese company Mori Building and designed by the American firm Kohn Pedersen Fox. At 492 meters it was for some time among the tallest buildings in the world, and it was designed with a trapezoid opening near the top, originally intended as a circle, which gives it the nickname of the bottle opener. It holds offices, a hotel and an observation deck near the top. It stands in the same area as the Jin Mao Tower and the Shanghai Tower, the three forming one of the best-known skylines in Asia.
