Construction of Pleiku Airport

1962

Pleiku Airport serves the city of Pleiku, in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The airfield was developed in the early 1960s, a period when the Central Highlands became strategically important during the Vietnam War. It was used for military operations and supply flights by South Vietnamese and United States forces, and the surrounding area saw several attacks on American installations in the mid-1960s. After the war ended in 1975, the airfield was converted to civilian use. It now handles scheduled commercial flights linking the highland province of Gia Lai with other Vietnamese cities.
