Whoopi Goldberg was born on 13 November 1955 in New York City. An American actress, comedian and television host, Goldberg is one of the few performers to have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award. She came to attention with her one-woman stage show and her role in The Color Purple, which earned her an Academy Award nomination. She won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for Ghost and appeared in films such as Sister Act, Jumpin' Jack Flash and The Lion King, as the voice of Shenzi. Since 2007 she has been a co-host of the television talk show The View.
