Birth of Usain Bolt

21 August 1986

Usain Bolt was born on 21 August 1986 in Sherwood Content. A Jamaican sprinter born in Trelawny, Bolt is widely regarded as the greatest sprinter in history. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics he won the 100 metres and 200 metres in world record times, and he repeated the double at the 2012 and 2016 Games, also winning the relay each time (though one relay title was later stripped because of a teammate's doping). In 2009 in Berlin he set world records of 9.58 seconds in the 100 metres and 19.19 in the 200 metres, marks that remain unbeaten. Tall for a sprinter and charismatic, he popularized a lightning-bolt victory pose. He retired in 2017 after the World Championships in London.
