Stanley Kubrick was born on 26 July 1928 in The Bronx. An American filmmaker who spent much of his career in England, Kubrick was known for meticulous control over his work. He directed films across many genres, including Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Lolita, the satire Dr. Strangelove, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining and Full Metal Jacket. His science-fiction epic 2001: A Space Odyssey, released in 1968, was acclaimed for its visual effects and its ambitious ideas about evolution and technology. He was a perfectionist who often spent years on a project and rarely gave interviews. His final film, Eyes Wide Shut, was released shortly after his death in 1999.
