Ringo Starr was born on 7 July 1940 in Dingle. An English musician, Starr was the drummer of the Beatles, joining the group in 1962 and taking over from Pete Best. His steady, inventive style and good humor made him a popular member of the band, and he sang lead on songs such as With a Little Help from My Friends and Yellow Submarine, and wrote Octopus's Garden. After the band's breakup in 1970 he had a solo career with hits such as It Don't Come Easy and Photograph, and he led the All-Starr Band. He was knighted in 2018, and continues to perform and record.
