Mel Gibson was born on 3 January 1956 in Peekskill. An American-Australian actor and filmmaker, Gibson grew up in Australia and made his name in the Mad Max films before becoming a major Hollywood star with the Lethal Weapon series. He won the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture as the director of Braveheart. His later directorial work included The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto and Hacksaw Ridge, the last earning him another Oscar nomination.
