Birth of Mariah Carey

27 March 1969

Mariah Carey was born on 27 March 1969 in Huntington. An American singer-songwriter and producer from Long Island, New York, Carey burst onto the scene with her self-titled debut album in 1990, which included the chart-topping single Vision of Love. Admired for her five-octave range and use of the whistle register, she became one of the best-selling music artists of all time, holding the record for the most number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 by a solo performer. Her hits include Hero, Fantasy, We Belong Together and the seasonal favourite All I Want for Christmas Is You, which returns to the charts every December. After a difficult period in the early 2000s she made a successful comeback with the album The Emancipation of Mimi in 2005.
