Isaac Asimov was born on 2 January 1920 in Petrovichi. A Russian-born American writer and biochemist, Asimov moved with his family to Brooklyn as a young child and later taught biochemistry at Boston University. He was one of the most prolific authors in history, writing or editing hundreds of books on science, history, literature and religion, as well as fiction. His science-fiction works include the Foundation series, a tale of the fall and rebirth of a galactic civilization, and the robot stories collected in I, Robot, which introduced the Three Laws of Robotics. He won multiple Hugo and Nebula awards, and his clear popular science books introduced many readers to the subject.
