Birth of Avril Lavigne

27 September 1984

Avril Lavigne was born on 27 September 1984 in Belleville. A Canadian singer-songwriter from Ontario, Lavigne became a teen sensation with her 2002 debut album Let Go, which included the hits Complicated and Sk8er Boi. Her skater image and pop-punk sound set her apart from the polished pop stars of the time, and she was called the punk princess of pop. Her 2007 single Girlfriend reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. She has sold tens of millions of records worldwide. After being diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2014 she spent months recovering and later founded a foundation supporting people with serious illnesses and disabilities, returning to music with new albums.
