Adele was born on 5 May 1988 in Tottenham. An English singer-songwriter from Tottenham in north London, Adele is known for her powerful, soulful contralto and emotional ballads. Her debut album 19 in 2008 was followed by 21 in 2011, which included Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You and became one of the best-selling albums of the century. Later records include 25, with the single Hello, and 30. She has won many Grammy Awards and an Academy Award for the James Bond theme Skyfall. After periods of rest from the public eye, she performed a residency in Las Vegas. She is regarded as one of the most commercially successful artists of her generation.
