Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and the co-founder of the youth organization Turning Point USA, was shot and killed while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Kirk, who was thirty-one, was well known as a commentator and as a supporter of Donald Trump, and had held debates with students on university campuses. The shooting happened in front of a crowd, and it drew condemnation from political leaders across the spectrum, and renewed debate about political violence in the United States. A suspect was later arrested and charged in the case. The killing was followed by large memorials and heated arguments over speech and its limits.
