2026 Hungarian parliamentary election

12 April 2026

The 2026 Hungarian parliamentary election was held in April 2026 to choose the members of the National Assembly of Hungary. Since 2010, the government had been led by Viktor Orban and his Fidesz party, which had won successive large majorities and had changed the constitution and the media landscape, drawing criticism from European institutions. The main challenge came from the Tisza party, led by Peter Magyar, a former insider of the governing party who turned against it. The election was closely watched in Europe, because of Hungary's role in debates about the rule of law and the war in Ukraine.
