Launch of Artemis II

1 April 2026

Artemis II is the first crewed mission of NASA's Artemis programme, sending astronauts around the Moon aboard the Orion spacecraft launched by the Space Launch System. The crew is made up of Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch of NASA and Jeremy Hansen of the Canadian Space Agency. It follows the uncrewed Artemis I test flight and follows a trajectory that loops around the far side of the Moon and returns to Earth, without landing. The mission tests Orion's life-support and other systems with people aboard, and it carries humans beyond low Earth orbit for the first time since Apollo 17. It prepares the way for a later lunar landing.
