The War of the Third Coalition was a conflict of the Napoleonic Wars in which Britain, Austria, Russia and other states fought France and its allies. Napoleon abandoned his plan to invade Britain after the British navy under Nelson destroyed the combined French and Spanish fleet at Trafalgar. On land, he led his army across Europe and forced an Austrian army to surrender at Ulm, then defeated the Austrians and Russians at Austerlitz, one of his greatest victories. Austria had to sign the Treaty of Pressburg, giving up territory. The Holy Roman Empire was dissolved in the following year, and Napoleon reshaped Germany by creating the Confederation of the Rhine.
