Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752

8 January 2020

Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 was a scheduled passenger flight from Tehran to Kyiv, a Boeing 737-800 that was shot down shortly after takeoff from Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport, killing all 176 people on board. Many of the passengers were Iranian and Canadian citizens, as well as Ukrainians, Swedes, Afghans and Britons. The shootdown occurred in the early hours when Iranian air defences were on high alert, a few hours after Iran launched missiles at US bases in Iraq in response to the killing of General Qasem Soleimani. After three days of denial, Iran admitted that its Revolutionary Guard had fired two missiles in error. Families and several governments criticised the investigation and demanded accountability.
