Tughlaq dynasty

from 1320 to 1413

The Tughlaq dynasty was the third dynasty to rule the Delhi Sultanate, founded by Ghiyath al-Din Tughluq, a Turkic governor who replaced the Khalji rulers. At its height, under his son Muhammad bin Tughluq, the sultanate reached across most of the Indian subcontinent, but the sultan's ambitious experiments, such as moving the capital from Delhi to Daulatabad in the Deccan and introducing token currency, caused hardship and rebellion. His successor Firuz Shah Tughlaq pursued a more cautious policy, building canals, towns and mosques. The sultanate began to weaken, and the Deccan and Bengal broke away, and in 1398 Timur invaded and sacked Delhi, which devastated the dynasty's authority. The Sayyid dynasty followed it.
