Gracanica Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery near Pristina in Kosovo, built by the Serbian king Stefan Milutin on the site of an earlier church. It is noted for its architecture, with a central dome surrounded by smaller domes in a style typical of the late Byzantine and Serbian tradition, and for its frescoes from the early fourteenth century, which are among the finest of the Palaiologan era. The monastery survived the Ottoman period, and was a centre of religious and cultural life for Serbs. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Medieval Monuments in Kosovo, and it has been protected by international forces because of tensions in the region.
