Solar eclipse of 12 August 2026

12 August 2026

The solar eclipse of 12 August 2026 was a total solar eclipse in which the Moon's shadow crossed the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland and the north of Spain. It was the first total solar eclipse to be visible from mainland Europe in many years, and it took place near sunset in Spain, with the Sun low on the horizon. Outside the narrow path of totality, a partial eclipse was visible across much of Europe, northern Africa and northern North America. As with every eclipse, it was predicted precisely, and astronomers and tourists travelled to the best viewing sites. Viewing without proper eye protection is dangerous except during the short phase of totality.
