Wiktionary is a free, collaboratively edited online dictionary run by the Wikimedia Foundation, and a sister project of Wikipedia. The English edition opened first, and editions in many other languages followed. Unlike a traditional dictionary, each edition aims to cover words of all languages, giving definitions, etymologies, pronunciations, translations, inflection tables and example sentences. It is written by volunteers and its content is freely licensed, so it can be reused in other works and in language-processing software. Over time it has grown into one of the largest multilingual dictionary resources, although its quality varies between languages.
