Release of Microsoft Bing

3 June 2009

Bing is a web search engine owned and run by Microsoft, introduced as the successor to earlier Microsoft search products such as MSN Search and Live Search. It was presented with an emphasis on helping users make decisions, with features such as image search, maps and travel tools. In 2009 Microsoft made an agreement with Yahoo to power Yahoo's search results with Bing technology. It has always trailed Google in market share, but it has a sizeable user base, particularly in the United States, and in 2023 Microsoft added an AI-based chat assistant to the service.
