Release of Claude

14 March 2023

Claude is a family of large language models developed by Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company founded in 2021 by former members of OpenAI, among them siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei. The first versions were released in 2023, initially to a limited group of partners and through an API, and later through a chat interface. Anthropic trained Claude using a method it called Constitutional AI, in which the model is guided by a written set of principles in addition to human feedback. Further generations followed rapidly, with models of different sizes designed for different tasks, and Claude became widely used for writing, analysis and software development.
