Release of Cebuano Wikipedia

22 June 2005

The Cebuano edition of Wikipedia is written in Cebuano, a language of the central Philippines spoken by tens of millions of people, particularly in Cebu, Bohol and parts of Mindanao. For a time it ranked among the largest editions by number of articles, although a large part of this is made up of short entries about places and animal and plant species, which were created automatically by a bot written by the Swedish editor Sverker Johansson. The edition has a small community of regular editors compared with its article count. It is often cited in discussions about how the size of a Wikipedia edition relates to the depth of its coverage.
