On 22 June 1986, in the World Cup quarter-final against England at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, four years after the Falklands War, Argentina's Diego Maradona scored two famous goals in four minutes. The first, in which he punched the ball past the goalkeeper Peter Shilton, and which the referee did not spot, he later described as scored 'a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God'. The second was a 60-metre solo run past five English players, voted the 'Goal of the Century' in 2002. Argentina won 2-1 and went on to win the cup, beating West Germany 3-2.
