The Treaty of Trianon was the peace treaty between the victorious Allies and Hungary after the First World War, signed at the Grand Trianon palace at Versailles. It confirmed the breakup of the Kingdom of Hungary after the collapse of Austria-Hungary: Hungary lost about two thirds of its former territory and a large share of its population. Transylvania went to Romania, Slovakia and Subcarpathia to Czechoslovakia, and Croatia and parts of the Banat to Yugoslavia, leaving millions of ethnic Hungarians outside the new borders. The treaty also limited the Hungarian army and imposed reparations. It remained a deep national trauma and fuelled revisionist politics in interwar Hungary.
