Founding of Sevilla FC

25 January 1890

Sevilla FC is a professional football club based in Seville, in Andalusia, Spain. It was founded by a group of British residents and local enthusiasts, among them the Scottish-born Edward Farquharson Johnston, and is one of the oldest clubs in the country. It has won La Liga and the Copa del Rey, but is best known for its record in European competition, where it has won the UEFA Europa League more times than any other club, including a run of three titles in a row in the mid-2010s. Its long rivalry with Real Betis, the other big club in the city, is known as the Seville derby, and the team plays at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium.
