Founding of Porsche

1931

Porsche began as a design and consulting office set up in Stuttgart by the engineer Ferdinand Porsche, who developed designs for other manufacturers, including the Volkswagen Beetle, commissioned by the German government in the 1930s. After the Second World War, his son Ferry Porsche built the first car to carry the family name, the 356, in 1948, and the company went on to make the 911, introduced in the 1960s, whose rear-engined design has been continuously developed ever since. Porsche is known for sports cars, successes in motor racing, including at Le Mans, and more recently for SUVs and electric cars such as the Taycan. It became part of the Volkswagen Group, and was listed on the stock market in 2022.
