Founding of Leeds United F.C.

1919

Leeds United is an English football club from Leeds in West Yorkshire, formed in the year that the previous city club, Leeds City, was disbanded after being expelled from the Football League over financial irregularities. The new club took over Elland Road, its home ground, and joined the league soon after. Its golden age was under the manager Don Revie in the 1960s and 1970s, when the team won the league title in 1969 and 1974, as well as the FA Cup in 1972, and were runners-up in the European Cup in 1975. Leeds won the last pre-Premier League title in 1992 and reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2001, before financial crisis led to relegation in 2004. It returned to the Premier League in 2020.
