Founding of Hewlett-Packard

2 July 1939

Hewlett-Packard was founded by Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard, two Stanford University graduates who began working in a garage in Palo Alto, California, a site now often called the birthplace of Silicon Valley. Their first product was an audio oscillator, and an early big customer was Walt Disney Studios, which bought several for the film Fantasia. The company grew into a major maker of test and measurement equipment, calculators, printers and computers, and became known for a management style called the HP Way. In 2015 it divided into two companies, HP Inc. for personal computers and printers and Hewlett Packard Enterprise for servers and services.
