The Deutsches Museum in Munich is one of the largest museums of science and technology in the world. It was founded at a meeting of the Association of German Engineers, on the initiative of the engineer Oskar von Miller, who wanted to present scientific and industrial achievements to the public. The collections moved to a purpose-built home on an island in the Isar River in the 1920s, after the building project was delayed by the First World War. The building was badly damaged in the Second World War and later restored. Its exhibits range from mining, shipbuilding and aviation to physics, chemistry and musical instruments, with many original objects and working demonstrations.
