Founding of Baskin-Robbins

1945

Baskin-Robbins is an American chain of ice cream shops, founded in 1945 in Glendale, California, by two brothers-in-law, Burton Baskin and Irvin Robbins, who had each previously run their own ice cream parlors. They are known for their large number of flavors, with the promise of 31 flavors, one for every day of the month, and for letting customers taste before they buy. The chain grew through franchising in the 1950s and 1960s and spread worldwide, with stores in dozens of countries. It was later acquired by a series of larger food companies and is now part of Inspire Brands. Its pink and brown logo has a hidden number 31.
