Establishment of Rocky Mountain National Park

1915

Rocky Mountain National Park lies in northern Colorado, near Estes Park, and covers a high, glaciated region of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. It was established thanks in large part to the campaign of the naturalist Enos Mills, and President Woodrow Wilson signed the bill that created it. The park contains more than a hundred peaks above 3,500 metres, including Longs Peak, and more than a hundred lakes, as well as alpine tundra, meadows and forests. Trail Ridge Road, one of the highest continuous paved roads in the country, crosses the park. Elk, bighorn sheep, moose and marmots are among the animals that visitors can see.
