Creation of Windows 10 Mobile

12 February 2015

Windows 10 Mobile was a mobile operating system from Microsoft for smartphones and small tablets, and the successor to Windows Phone 8.1. It shared much of its core with the desktop version of Windows 10 and was meant to run the same universal apps across phones, tablets and PCs. The first preview versions were made available to testers in early 2015, and the system shipped on phones such as the Lumia 950 and 950 XL later that year. It also offered a feature called Continuum, which let a phone drive a monitor and keyboard like a small PC. Weak app support and a small market share meant it never competed with Android and iOS, and Microsoft ended support at the end of 2019.
